Get Involved in Beyond Campus Food Banks

There are several ways for you to get involved in the work of Beyond Campus Food Banks.

Here are just a few ways you can be a part of building this movement, and make your mark on it:

Online & Social Media Support

Sharing to and Learning from the Network:

  • Read our toolkit on 10 Myths About Student Poverty

  • Watch our in-depth video on Student Food Insecurity & The Future of Education

  • Check out our Campus Food Banks Database, which has links to all food banks in the country, and some basic info on a few of them. Help us collect more information about the food bank on your campus by filling out the Campus Food Bank survey and sharing results with us at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

  • Plan to come to Meal Exchange’s annual National Student Food Summit

Show the Real Extent of the Problem:

  • Read our toolkit on creating Campus Hunger Reports

  • Get the campus food bank on your campus to collect data and share it with us

    • meet with coordinators/volunteers to find out what data they collect, whether they'd be willing to participate and share their data with the network

    • here is a template for confidentiality release and an optional survey used at Ryerson Students' Union's Good Food Centre which provide a good sense of demographics for advocacy purposes

  • Publish a campus hunger report on your campus

    • Review the Campus Hunger Report Toolkit, and Ryerson Students' Union's pioneering Hunger report to see what could be involved.

      • Decide whether you have the capacity to do a study on student food bank usage or student food insecurity (not just who is going to the food bank). Both are valuable, though the latter even more so since the majority of people who are experiencing food insecurity stay away from food banks due to stigma, lack of awareness or inadequacy of the service provided.

    • Meal Exchange is here to help you publish one of these on your campus. Reach out to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. for support

Raising Awareness and Action on the Issue:

  • Read our toolkit on 10 Myths About Student Poverty

  • Watch our in-depth video on  Student Food Insecurity & The Future of Education
  • Talk about the issue with your family, friends and peers

  • Build an organization on your campus to work towards ending student poverty

    • work within existing group or campaign, or start a Meal Exchange Chapter (contact This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. )
